Romance means something different to everyone. Perhaps your idea of a romantic honeymoon is a beachfront destination, while others prefer a snow-capped mountain, a quaint European village or a hilltop winery. We’ve assembled a list of dreamy destinations, each perfect for a romantic getaway as newlyweds.

The Snow-capped Slopes

Nothing says romance like a crackling fire in a rustic ski lodge. Whether you’re both avid skiers or not, you’ll definitely enjoy cuddling fireside with a glass of wine or hot cocoa. The majestic mountains of Colorado and Utah are dotted with beautiful, cozy resorts surrounded by stunning scenery. It’s best to make early reservations as ski resorts tend to book quickly. We recommend you stay and play in Aspen and Vail, Colorado or Park City, Utah.

The Travel Team’s Nicole Czechowski, Leisure and Luxury Travel Specialist, says not to disregard our nation’s east coast ski destinations including fantastic resorts in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

Romantic River Cruise

An intimate cruise along the Danube, especially during the holidays, is especially romantic. Small European villages shine brightly during the holiday season, and pop-up markets open as early as November. A warm coat is all you may need to enjoy a long stroll through the ornately decorated towns and villages to take in the sights, sounds and smells of a traditional European holiday festival. Nicole says Vienna and Budapest are well known for their holiday markets.

The Sunny Southwest

Looking for fun in the sun but bored of beaches? A honeymoon in America’s Southwest is your answer. Santa Fe, Phoenix, Sedona and Denver all deliver the warmth of the southern sun but offer a variety of accommodations and excursions to appeal to a variety of interests; from arts, history and culture, to cuisine and adventures in the great outdoors.

Warm Breezes in Belize

If hot sun and beaches are your dream destination, then the beaches of Belize may be the perfect honeymoon spot for you. The laid-back lifestyle common to Belize lends itself to unwinding after the hectic year (or more) of planning for your wedding. Unwind at any of Belize’s terrific beach resorts, or head inland to a secluded inn in the toucan-filled jungle. Need one more reason to visit Belize? Central America is known to offer affordable accommodations in comparison to Caribbean resorts.

Unwind in Wine Country

For the wine connoisseur, we recommend hopping aboard one of the many US wine trails for a road trip, or settling into a popular wine town for the duration of your honeymoon. This romantic honeymoon can be tailored to your desires and budget. Some wineries offer free tastings, while others charge a nominal fee. Pair wine with local cheeses at a roadside picnic or enjoy it with a gourmet meal at the winery for a more upscale experience. Consider staying anywhere from quaint inns to lavish resorts for a variety of price points.

“By choosing to treat yourself to a romantic vineyard honeymoon, you will likely avoid children and be in the company of other adult couples for this special time,” said Nicole.

Nicole recommends these US wine-tasting destinations:
  • Grand Valley, Colorado
  • Napa Valley, California
  • Finger Lakes, New York
  • Willamette Valley, Oregon
  • Texas Hill Country
  • Virginia Wine Country
  • Door County, Wisconsin
  • Winston-Salem, North Carolina
