The tradition of incorporating “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” into a wedding is more than 100 years old. Yet, even modern couples continue to embrace the tradition. Of course, they’re adding a contemporary spin their great-grandparents wouldn’t have dreamed of.
For a unique “something blue,” take inspiration from one of these modern twists.
Accessories
Add your something blue into your outfit with a sapphire or turquoise ring, pair of earrings or necklace. You could also have your new wedding bands delivered to the alter in a blue ring box. Something blue could also mean hair accessories ranging from a light, dusty blue to dark navy. We love unique headbands, tiaras and bobby pins. Other blue accessory ideas include a sash or belt, shoes (either ceremony heels or the flats you change into later in the night), nails, garter and eyeliner.
Wedding Party
Choose a shade of blue for your bridesmaids’ and flower girl’s dresses. The guys can get in on your something blue with ties, handkerchiefs, jackets or shoelaces.
Flowers
Your florals are a great place to add a little blue. Tuck blue blooms into your bouquet or a flower crown. You could also tie your bouquet with a blue ribbon. If you’re planning on having a flower girl, they can sprinkle blue petals down the aisle.
Reception
You could also leave your something blue for the reception. Arrive in a classic powder blue car. Choose barely-blue frosting for your cake. Or, pack a punch of blue with your chinaware, napkins, table cloths or centerpieces.
