If you’re planning a winter wedding, don’t restrict yourself to the season’s most popular color pairing of red and green. There are many ways to embrace winter with subtle hints of seasonal décor to create an inviting scene for your ceremony and reception.

Get Cozy

The cool weather will have everyone looking for a warm, comfortable space to gather after celebrating your nuptials. Add layers of warmth and texture with cozy throws, velvet chair covers and ribbons, richly colored table linens and faux fur accents.

Create a lounge seating area with sofas and armchairs, floor pillows and plenty of coordinating toss cushions in your reception space to give guests a comfortable place to put their feet up and relax between dances. If your reception hall has a fireplace, this is a natural place to put this cozy gathering place. Your guests will need a reservation to enjoy this prime seating!

Invite Nature into Your Décor

While a winter landscape may seem barren, there are plenty of seasonal treasures to adorn your table, line your aisle and decorate the reception space with. Tall branches, birch logs and pine cones are all great winter elements to add to your décor.

You may also want to select a venue that emphasizes natural elements such as stone walls or fireplaces, barn board feature walls and hardwood floors. Rich’s Atrium has a three-story stone fireplace that becomes a natural focal point, photo backdrop and gathering place at any wedding reception.

An All White Theme

A wedding washed in white accents will look like a magical winter wonderland. From rose petals and baby’s breath to birch trees and white linens, your wedding can be as lustrous as new fallen snow. Wrap tent poles and columns in sheer white linen with twinkle lights to soften the scene and add a romantic glow. White paper lanterns strung from the ceiling will look like giant snowflakes and crystals hanging from branches will refract light in every direction.

Gorgeous Greenery

Pine, cedar, eucalyptus, balsam and juniper are vivid, fragrant winter greens that are ideal for wreaths, garland, bouquets and arrangements. Add sprigs of these greens to the back of chairs, wrap them in twine and place at each table setting with a menu or string them together with white twinkle lights to create a stunning backdrop for your head table.

Boxwood is another favorite for wreathes. Ask your local florist to create a boxwood monogram for your head table or cake table for fresh take on this popular trend.

For an icy spin on winter floral decorating, ask your ice sculptor to freeze flowers, berries and greenery into an ice display that can be the center piece of your food station, head table or bar.
