Couples looking for a unique honeymoon away from the hustle and bustle of a big city or resort should think about heading to a national park after their wedding. There are dozens of ways to enjoy a week with your new husband or wife in the natural beauty of North America’s national parks.

Personalize Your Trip

Like any honeymoon destination, the national park you choose to visit should be filled with things you enjoy doing with your significant other. Whether you’re in to hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, beach camping or glamping, there’s a park for you. There are touristy options and remote parks that will feel like you have the trails, lakes and mountains all to yourself.

List a few bucket list items you share and try to find a park that checks those boxes. Whether you’ve always wanted to zip line over the forest, rock climb in the Rockies or see the Northern Lights in Alaska, there’s a national park that’s perfect for your honeymoon.

Stay at a Resort

Choosing to travel to a national park for your honeymoon doesn’t have to mean giving up couples’ massages and romantic suites. There are plenty of beautiful, high-end resorts in and around national parks that offer spa services, delicious food and plenty of champagne.

Make it a Road Trip

Road trip honeymoons are all the rage, and a national park makes a great stop on your journey. Heading down Pacific Highway 1? Drive a few hours east for a stop at Yosemite or Joshua Tree National Parks. On the East Coast, Acadia National Park and Great Smoky Mountains National Park await.

Choose a Park with a Beach

Instead of heading to an all-inclusive, mix a few lazy days on the beach with stunning hikes, lots of wildlife and guided tours. Virgin Islands, Redwood Forest and Dry Tortugas National Parks are perfect for lounging on beach chairs while reminiscing about you beautiful wedding and recovering from the previous day’s hike.

There are plenty of other beautiful shorelines across the country managed by the National Parks Service as well.

Head North

Look beyond just the United States’ national parks when planning your honeymoon. Canada is home to 44 national parks. Banff National Park is a very popular honeymoon destination but is also one of the country’s more crowded national parks.

For a more secluded honeymoon, consider other gorgeous Canadian national parks, including Jasper, Torngat Mountains and Waterton Lakes. Ontario’s Point Pelee National Park, which juts into Lake Erie, is just a four-hour drive from Buffalo.
